Public Land Project

Our Mission

About the Project

Public Land Project is a nonpartisan resource dedicated to raising awareness about the policy decisions that shape America's public lands.

We believe that every hunter, angler, hiker, and American who cares about wild places deserves clear, timely information about the legislative and regulatory proposals that could affect them. Policy happens fast. Disposals are permanent.

Our interactive policy map connects parcels of state and federal public land to the specific proposals currently under consideration — whether that's a bill to transfer land to private ownership, a rule restricting hunting access, or a proposal to expand the public estate.

What We Track

Policies are grouped into three categories based on their impact on public land.

Acquisition

Proposals to add new land to the federal or state public land estate — expanding the commons.

Disposal

Proposals to sell, transfer, or remove land from public ownership — permanently.

Access

Changes to recreation rules, road access, easements, and infrastructure that determine how the public uses these lands.
